Background
Over the years, Bayer has partnered with growers, farmers, weed scientists, applicators, and other agricultural stakeholders to implement innovative weed management programs. Bayer has committed to invest over $5 billion in a comprehensive and future-oriented approach regarding weed management.
Goal
As part of this initiative, Bayer wanted to test a weed management tool that focuses on addressing a specific need with growers and technical agronomists (TAs). Research showed that growers wanted the ability to get customized crop protection recommendations from their TAs to ensure the healthiest crops and largest yields. Additionally, TAs needed the ability to make quick and efficient recommendations to applicators. With that, I was hired to provide designs for the new site with several requirements called out by the client:
Mobile-first design: 94% of their traffic for weed management topics and tools came from mobile devices, 4% from tablets, and the remaining 2% from a desktop.

Rapid prototyping: We were working with a tight deadline and needed designs, QA checks, client feedback, and iterations to happen at an expedited pace.

Full Integration: The app would be largely a CRUD application and would integrate with an existing product. As a result certain elements of pages would link out and back in to the app and needed to be designed in a seamless and coherent way.
UX Strategy
In order to better understand the space and product, I reviewed the data and research that had been developed thus far. Additionally, I collaborated with the Creative Director and engineers and created a flow of the screens via Lucidchart. This was my guide for mocking up the grower screens.

Mockups
Once I had a clear vision of the user flow, I began designing the screens for the grower user journey followed by the TA journey. We found that the other user groups that would utilize the tool all had similar goals so we grouped them into one type of user - Admin.

Launch
After 8 design iterations, we successfully rolled out the Digital Weed Management Pilot to a group of 20 participants in April 2023. We received an overwhelming amount of positive feedback while also capturing some improvement areas and features that can be added in future iterations.
